Where Technique Serves Artistry
Background
Founded by internationally acclaimed pianist and pedagogue Erin Hales, Parnassus Piano Academy offers an individualized and artistically rigorous approach to musical education rooted in both history and imagination. Drawing upon foundations laid by Italy’s International Piano Academy Lake Como, as well as extensive research into historical performance practice, the Academy emphasizes interpretive depth, creativity, and intellectual engagement with music above all else. Students receive mentorship in piano performance, music theory, composition, chamber music, and more within an environment designed to foster curiosity, discipline, and personal voice. Since Parnassus’ founding in 2017, our students have earned recognition in national and international competitions, performed at Carnegie Hall, and premiered original compositions across the United States.
Vision
Music is the birthright of every human being. As such, we strive to cultivate artists who combine refinement with imagination, scholarship with expression, and discipline with creative freedom — musicians capable of carrying the great traditions of music forward with originality and conviction.
Our aim is to provide a supportive and inspiring environment wherein students of all ages—including adults—develop a lifelong relationship with music. Through individualized instruction, we aim to cultivate strong technical foundations, healthy practice habits, and a genuine sense of curiosity and confidence at the piano. Rooted in Old World traditions and guided by a holistic philosophy of mentorship, our approach emphasizes both discipline and joy, helping each student grow in focus, creativity, and self-expression in ways that extend beyond mere technical proficiency.
Given that our teaching reflects a deep commitment to creative aging and the belief that musical growth is lifelong, the Academy also warmly welcomes older students. We are passionate about working with adults at all stages—whether returning to the piano after many years, beginning for the first time, or pursuing advanced artistic goals later in life. This inclusive philosophy shapes a culture in which every student is provided tools to develop artistry, confidence, and meaningful personal expression, no matter their age or experience level.
